Romanticism

The romanticism began in the late 1700s and lasted until the realism and naturalism that began about 1830. Romanticism had its foothold in Germany, France and Britain. The term romanticism means novel-like and the word romance comes from the ancient French word Romanza. It was during the romance that everything was becoming more alive and free and fantasy began to emerge more and more. New ingredients were intuition and imagination. Feelings were an important part. When it came to questions about God, man and the world, emotions played a major role. For the first time writers and artists were looked upon as geniuses.
